This is official description
TeamViewer Host is running as a system service and is used for 24/7 access to remote computers, including login/logout and remote reboot - optimized for server maintenance or home-office access. Unlike most competitors TeamViewer includes an unlimited number of free hosts with all licenses - you just pay for the supporter license and your remote servers are included for free.
The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 4.0
TeamViewer Host is the host application of the screen sharing PC solution. The service itself is very similar to VNC. You set up a host on any computer connected to the Internet or another network, and you connect to that computer by using a client that is connected to the same network. Now, TeamViewer is exactly that. It allows you to control any computer from anywhere, if it is connected to the Internet, obviously. Once inside, you can control the computer as if you were there. That is possible because TeamViewer shares all the resources of the computer and acts as your proxy there. So all the actions you carry out from the client version will be executed in real-time by the Host version. TeamViewer Host has an advanced networking engine that allows you to connect to it even if your computer is behind a firewall or router or if it has limited connectivity, which is great for certain types of networks. Also, both the client and host applications are free of charge if used for Non-commercial purposes. The latest version of TeamViewer Host is 4.0.5503. However, this review deals with version 4.0. |

Presenter – Organizer – Participant

Licenses, Updates and Backward Compatibility
TeamViewer 7 users can still establish remote control connections with TeamViewer 3, 4, 5 and 6.
However, for technical and licensing reasons, a connection in the other direction, i.e., from TeamViewer 3, 4, 5 and 6 to TeamViewer 7, is not possible.
The new meeting features are only supported by TeamViewer 7. Due to the large amount of new features, meetings with version 7 are not compatible with any previous versions due to technical reasons. |
